"Dragon Skin" was inspired by a yellow and gold embroidered dragon. While looking through books and books of work from the museum I was most taken by the embroidered dragon because of its beauty. Not only were the colors intoxicating, the craftsmanship of the whole piece was beautiful. I decided to take the most important aspects of the embroidery and transform them into a large tapestry. I found gold and red fabric to mimic the thread. I wanted to keep the piece as abstract as I could, the material used didn't call for imagery. While in process of prepping my material I found the fabric pieces to resemble scales of a dragon or other reptile. It was a happy accident, but I believe it helped the piece come together and resemble the embroidery in which the inspiration stemmed from.
